Contemporary China- Shanghai 2010

The multilayered past is visible in every streetscape, strata of past cultures and ultra modern development cohabit together.

The pinhole long exposure times partially dissolve human presence of this crowded city, leaving only the structural.

40 minute exposure times in The People’s Park Metro station reveal only shadow like traces of the crowds moving through the space.

In Yuyuan, the modern market lined with souvenir shops built in the style of Architecture Chinioserie, the subjects of their own photographic records remain still enough to register in the pinhole exposures.

At Jing’an Temple, devotees of an ancient religion practice their worship surrounded by the towering glass clad monuments  of contemporary China.
